Role Overview

RavenCrew is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented On-Set Sound Recordist (Production Sound Mixer) to support audio capture during film and media productions. This role is hands-on and production-focused, with primary responsibility for recording high-quality dialogue and on-set sound, managing audio equipment, and ensuring all sound assets meet post-production standards.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining audio integrity throughout the production process, working closely with the Director, Camera Team, and talent to ensure seamless coordination between sound and picture. This position requires strong technical expertise, the ability to problem-solve in dynamic filming environments, and a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating audio challenges.

This role may be engaged on a project or daily contract basis, depending on production requirements. The compensation range will be discussed based on experience and market rate.

Key Responsibilities:

Audio Capture & Recording

  • Operate professional sound recording equipment (field mixers, recorders, wireless systems, boom microphones)
  • Capture clean, intelligible dialogue and ambient sound during filming
  • Monitor audio levels in real-time using headphones and meters
  • Ensure proper microphone placement (lavaliers, boom, plant mics)

On-Set Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Director, Producer, and Camera Department to align on shot setup and audio needs
  • Coordinate with talent/actors to properly fit and conceal microphones
  • Communicate proactively about sound issues (background noise, interference, etc.)

Equipment Management

  • Set up, test, and maintain all audio recording equipment before and during shoots
  • Troubleshoot technical issues quickly to avoid production delays
  • Manage batteries, frequencies, and backups for uninterrupted recording

Audio File Management

  • Label, organize, and log audio files accurately (scene, take, notes)
  • Ensure proper syncing references (timecode/slate) with camera footage
  • Deliver organized audio files to post-production team daily

Sound Quality Control

  • Identify and mitigate unwanted noise (wind, traffic, crew movement, interference)
  • Recommend re-takes when audio quality is compromised
  • Maintain consistent sound levels and tone across scenes

Team Leadership (if applicable)

  • Supervise Boom Operator or Sound Assistant (if assigned)
  • Delegate tasks and ensure team efficiency on set

Compliance & Professional Standards

  • Follow all health & safety protocols on set
  • Ensure compliance with any applicable film union/guild requirements (if relevant)
  • Maintain confidentiality of production content

Deliverables

  • Clean, properly recorded audio files for each shooting day
  • Sound reports/logs (if required)
  • Equipment inventory and status reporting

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in film/TV production sound recording
  • Strong technical knowledge of audio equipment and signal flow
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic production environments
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Nice-to-Have (Optional for your posting)
  • Experience with timecode sync systems
  • Familiarity with post-production workflows (ADR, sound design)
  • Own professional sound kit
  • Professional appearance and positive attitude, with a strong focus on teamwork, discretion and confidentiality

  • Clear communicator who collaborates effectively with production, camera, and talent teams
