This role sits inside the studio camera department, responsible for delivering broadcast-quality visuals across live and breaking news programming from Nexstar’s facility at 220 E. 42nd St. It suits an experienced studio camera operator who is comfortable in a manual, director-driven control room and can execute clean, precise shots under the pressure of live television production.

About the Role

The Robotic Camera Operator works directly within NewsNation’s live broadcast workflow, supporting multiple shows and segments across assigned shifts that include early mornings, overnights, weekends, and holidays. A typical shift means monitoring multiple robotic camera positions, responding in real time to director cues, and maintaining consistent exposure and framing across the studio floor. This position is covered under IBEW Local 1212, and candidates must be members in good standing or eligible to join upon hire.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate robotic studio cameras and execute on-air shots based on real-time direction from the control room during live cable news broadcasts.
• Perform basic shading and color correction using waveform monitors and vector scopes to maintain consistent image quality across all camera positions.
• Execute smooth, precise camera moves in a fully manual control room environment, responding accurately to director cues without delay.
• Troubleshoot technical issues on the fly during live production, adjusting camera or system settings without interrupting the broadcast.
• Communicate clearly with directors and control room staff across all phases of production, from pre-show setup through live segments.
• Support multiple shows or live segments within a single shift as assigned by production.

What You Bring

• Minimum five years of experience operating studio cameras or robotic camera systems in a live television production environment.
• Hands-on experience with Ross robotic camera systems is preferred for this role.
• Proficiency with Sony RCPs and color correction tools such as Cobalt is a plus.
• Strong working knowledge of framing, composition, exposure, and color balance in a broadcast studio context.
• IBEW Local 1212 membership in good standing, or eligibility to join upon hire.
• A bachelor’s degree in Communications or a related field is preferred but not required.
