DNEG
DNEG is accepting speculative applications for a Lighting TD (VFX) based in the United Kingdom. This role sits within the Shot Finishing department, working across environment generalist, lighting, and comp pipelines to bring VFX shots to a final deliverable state. It suits a TD with hands-on feature film or episodic television credits who understands how lighting decisions affect the full compositing chain downstream.
About the Role
The Lighting TD position at DNEG operates inside a Shot Finishing team responsible for integrating CG elements into live-action plates and driving shots through to picture lock. Day-to-day work involves building and refining lighting rigs within the VFX pipeline, troubleshooting render issues, and collaborating closely with compositors to ensure CG and plate elements read consistently on screen. Productions at DNEG span major studio tentpoles and streaming features, so the volume and complexity of work reflects that scale.
Key Responsibilities
- Build, light, and render CG environment and asset shots within an established VFX pipeline, working to brief from the CG Supervisor or DOP references.
- Set up and manage lighting rigs using physically based shading and HDR image-based lighting to match on-set conditions.
- Deliver AOV render passes that meet compositing requirements, ensuring layers are clean and correctly labelled for the comp team.
- Troubleshoot render farm issues, optimize scene files for efficiency, and flag technical problems to the pipeline or render wrangling team.
- Review dailies and incorporate shot notes from supervisors, iterating quickly across multiple shots within a production schedule.
- Maintain consistent shot quality across sequences, tracking continuity of lighting and look between cuts in post-production workflow.
What You Bring
- Proven credits as a Lighting TD on feature film or high-end television VFX productions.
- Strong working knowledge of Arnold, Katana, or similar production rendering software used in large-scale VFX pipelines.
- Solid understanding of compositing fundamentals, including how lighting passes are used within Nuke or a comparable comp application.
- Experience working within a structured shot finishing or post-production workflow at a recognized VFX facility.
- Ability to manage multiple shots simultaneously under deadline pressure without sacrificing technical quality.
Why This Role
DNEG is one of the most consistently credited VFX studios in feature film production, with Oscar-winning work across multiple recent productions. Joining the Shot Finishing department places you at the point where technical craft directly shapes the final image audiences see.
