Job Position(s): Lead Crowd Artist
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: $140,000 - $160,000/year

Eyeline, the Netflix-backed VFX studio, is hiring a Lead Crowd Artist based in Vancouver, Canada. This role sits within the crowd department and is responsible for delivering complex crowd simulations and shot work across feature film and episodic television productions. It suits an experienced crowd artist who is ready to step into a leadership seat and own both the technical and creative output of a team.

About the Role

The crowd department at Eyeline operates across a range of large-scale VFX productions, building the digital populations that fill stadiums, battlefields, streets, and any environment where scale storytelling demands it. Day to day, the Lead Crowd Artist is splitting time between supervising artists, troubleshooting sim issues in the VFX pipeline, and staying in close contact with show supervisors to keep quality and schedule aligned. You are the connective tissue between the artists doing the work and the supervisors setting the creative direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of crowd artists through shot production, providing hands-on technical guidance and creative feedback across the full crowd pipeline.
  • Work directly with crowd and show supervisors to maintain consistency in crowd behavior, character variation, and overall visual quality across sequences.
  • Build and refine digital crowd behaviors and agent simulations in Houdini to match the movement style and scale called for in each production.
  • Troubleshoot complex crowd sim failures and agent setup problems, resolving issues before they escalate into schedule risks.
  • Maintain clear, regular communication with production on shot status, sequence progress, and any technical blockers affecting deadlines.
  • Attend shot reviews, sequence meetings, and internal team sessions to keep work on track and contribute to department-level decision making.

What You Bring

  • A minimum of four years of crowd experience in live-action visual effects, with a portfolio covering a range of crowd setups and completed shots from feature film or episodic television.
  • Expert-level Houdini crowd knowledge is required, with strong familiarity with agent setup, behavior networks, and simulation workflows.
  • Experience with Golaem is strongly preferred, and any background in mocap retargeting inside Maya or MotionBuilder is a genuine plus.
  • Prior experience leading or supervising a crowd team in a production environment is preferred.
  • Comfort working within a USD-based pipeline, and familiarity with Python or VEX scripting, are both advantages on this hire.

Why This Role

Eyeline operates at a scale that very few VFX studios reach, with Netflix investment behind its pipeline, infrastructure, and workforce, which means the projects and resources here are not typical. The studio’s Vancouver location puts you inside one of the most active production markets in North America, with access to a broad slate of content across feature film and episodic television. The salary range for this position is $140,000 to $160,000 CAD per year, based on qualifications, experience, and location within Vancouver, BC.

Apply now for the Lead Crowd Artist role at Eyeline and bring your crowd experience to one of the most well-resourced VFX studios currently operating in Vancouver.
