FOX News Media is hiring a Lead Audio Operator based in Washington, District of Columbia. This role sits at the center of live broadcast audio production, responsible for mixing studio and remote feeds, managing intercom systems, and delivering broadcast-quality sound across live news and special event coverage. It suits an experienced A1 who has built their career in live television broadcast and knows how to keep a signal chain clean when things get complicated.

About the Role

The Lead Audio Operator works within the technical operations team supporting FOX News Channel and FOX Business Network live programming, where uptime and audio consistency are non-negotiable. A typical day involves running audio for live studio broadcasts, prepping remote translations, and performing equipment checks before air. This is a union-represented position, with benefits and terms in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as Lead A1 for live studio broadcasts and remote productions, owning the audio mix from prep through transmission.
  • Design and operate complex live audio workflows including studio and remote translations, transcriptions, and AoIP audio networking via Dante.
  • Program and operate Calrec digital audio consoles for live news coverage and special event broadcasts.
  • Configure and maintain intercom systems within Calrec RTS ADAM and AZ Edit environments to support production and talent communications.
  • Troubleshoot signal flow and routing issues in real time during live broadcast television production without interrupting air.
  • Mentor junior audio operators and freelance staff on console operation, IFB management, and broadcast audio standards.

What You Bring

  • Proven experience mixing audio for live television broadcast, ideally across news, sports, or high-volume episodic production.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Calrec digital consoles, RTS intercom systems, AZ Edit, Dante, and AoIP audio network infrastructure.
  • Solid command of broadcast signal flow, audio routing, and the technical architecture behind live control room operations.
  • The ability to work variable shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by live news scheduling.
  • Strong communication skills built around working with engineering, production, and technical teams in a live environment.

Why This Role
