About the Role

The Junior Counsel, Film works within A24’s film business and legal affairs department, supporting the legal infrastructure behind the company’s ongoing feature film production and acquisition pipeline. Day-to-day work involves drafting and negotiating contracts, managing relationships with outside counsel across active productions, and keeping deal tracking systems current. The role touches every stage of a film’s lifecycle, from option agreements in development to certificates of engagement on a picture in production.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft and negotiate development, production, and distribution agreements, including rights deals, writing agreements, directing deals, acting agreements, and producing contracts across A24’s film slate.
• Manage outside legal counsel on active productions, reviewing engagement letters, scopes of work, and contract drafts prepared for crew and above-the-line talent.
• Liaise with guild counsel and immigration counsel as production needs require, keeping cross-functional legal matters on track.
• Assist with rights clearances, underlying rights analyses, and review of chain-of-title documentation for feature film acquisitions and productions.
• Research deal terms and contract precedent to inform and support active negotiations across the film department.
• Maintain the department’s contract archive, deal memo tracking systems, and general legal correspondence, and identify process improvements to support department efficiency.

What You Bring

• J.D. with a strong academic record and active membership in good standing with the California bar.
• One to three years of transactional experience in a film business and legal affairs department or an entertainment law firm, though entry-level candidates with strong internship or summer associate experience in entertainment law will be considered.
• Working knowledge of intellectual property law, guild agreements, and the legal framework governing feature film production and distribution.
• Proficiency with legal research databases, the Microsoft Office suite, and comfort learning proprietary legal management software.
• Strong organizational instincts and the ability to manage multiple contract deadlines across an active production slate.
