Jib /Camera Operator
- Temporary
- New York City, NY, US
NEP Group
NEP Group is hiring a Jib/Camera Operator based in New York City, NY. This role sits within the camera department, responsible for executing crane-based camera movements across live television broadcasts, studio productions, and live events. It’s a fit for an experienced camera professional who knows their way around a jib arm and is comfortable working in high-pressure, broadcast-driven environments.
About the Role
The Jib/Camera Operator at NEP Group works across a range of live production and broadcast television formats, supporting some of the most-watched events in sports and entertainment. Day-to-day, this person is responsible for the full lifecycle of jib operation, from pre-production rig assembly and counterweight balancing through to executing precise, director-driven camera moves on set. NEP’s production ecosystem spans live events, concerts, and studio television, meaning the work is varied and the stakes are consistently high.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate the jib arm to execute fluid overhead shots, tracking moves, and reveals during live television and broadcast production.
- Assemble, align, and balance the crane system before each shoot, including proper counterweight configuration to meet safety standards.
- Monitor the physical footprint and clearance of the jib throughout production to protect talent, crew, and camera equipment on set.
- Compose and frame shots in real time, adjusting lens choice, focus, zoom, and camera settings to meet the director’s visual intent.
- Test, clean, and maintain camera and electronic equipment before, during, and after each assignment to ensure reliable performance.
- Communicate clearly with directors, operators, and other production departments throughout the shoot day, following shot lists and production protocols.
What You Bring
- Minimum three years of experience operating a camera jib in a professional broadcast television or live production context.
- Hands-on knowledge of pan, tilt, focus, and zoom controls in high-volume, multi-camera broadcast environments.
- Familiarity with circuit boards, processors, and broadcast-grade camera hardware and software.
- An associate or bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting or Communications is preferred, though equivalent professional experience is considered.
- Physical ability to stand for extended periods, maintain arm-hand steadiness, and lift or manage equipment up to 50 lbs.
Why This Role
NEP Group has been a trusted production partner for over 35 years, supporting major live events, broadcast television, and large-scale entertainment productions across the globe. The scope of their work, from sports broadcasts to concert and festival coverage, means a Jib/Camera Operator here gains exposure to the full range of live production formats. For someone looking to build a serious broadcast camera department resume, the breadth of NEP’s production slate is hard to match.
