Jewelry Television – Broadcast Stagehand/Grip

The Stagehand / Grip will have the unique opportunity of being a part of the live, 24/7, studio environment as well as possible on-location and other production projects. Stagehand / Grip will be expected to perform a variety of behind-the-scenes functions and be responsible for building, maintaining, moving, setting up, striking, storing, managing and organizing sets, lighting and grip gear, as well as set touch ups and prep. This position is located in Knoxville, Tennessee and is not remote.

Stagehand / Grip may at times need to set up flats, paint or decorate them according to the Scenic Designer’s specifications. When a production is completed, the Stagehand / Grip will be responsible for dismantling the scenery or set pieces and storing them. The Stagehand / Grip will also serve as the de facto back-up and support the Lighting Director. The Stagehand / Grip will be expected to work with Directors, Lighting Director, Set Dressers, Set Designers, Creative Producers, Director of Photography, Videographers, Executive Producer and Engineering, depending on the assignment and task at any given time.

This is a role that requires strong multi-tasking skills with good communication habits and a keen ability to think strategically and react quickly in an ever-changing environment. The Stagehand / Grip must have solid technical, lighting and grip skills and be very dependable. They must be willing to adapt to the needs of the show or shoot. Must be able to lift/move weights and grip gear of up to 50 lbs. or more, as well as lift lights over their head to mount in the studio grid. The Stagehand / Grip Will work in both studio and field environments.

Primary Responsibilities

• Routinely lift and carry heavy equipment

• Set up, maintain and change show setups and backdrops

• Read and understand a stage plan or layout

• Correctly and efficiently produce, handle, transport, use and store items

• Changing lamps & gels

• Maintain storage area and inventories

• Assist as Grip on remote shoots off site

• Perform other related duties as assigned

• Knowledge of studio equipment including sets, props, cameras and lighting equipment
