Netflix is hiring an Environment Modeling Supervisor to join Netflix Animation Studios in Sydney, Australia. This role sits within the environments department and is responsible for leading the creation of 3D environments, sets, and props that are technically pipeline-ready and artistically aligned with the production designer’s vision across a feature film. It is a role suited to a senior modeler who has moved into leadership and is comfortable owning the quality and delivery of an entire asset category from concept interpretation through to handoff.

About the Role

The Environment Modeling Supervisor works directly within Netflix Animation Studios under the Head of Environments, supervising a team of modelers across a specific feature film production. Day to day, this means running modeling reviews, managing asset complexity against production schedules, and keeping environment assets aligned with the needs of Layout, Surfacing, FX, CFX, and Lighting as the film moves through the animation pipeline. The role requires close collaboration with the production designer, art director, and technical supervisors to maintain design fidelity and pipeline integrity across the full world of the film.

Key Responsibilities

• Supervise the modeling team in building 3D environments, sets, and props that reflect the production designer’s intent in terms of scale, silhouette, proportion, and visual style.
• Lead environment modeling reviews and provide specific, constructive feedback on design fidelity, structural integrity, and asset quality throughout the feature film production cycle.
• Ensure all environment assets meet technical pipeline standards so they integrate cleanly with Layout, Surfacing, FX, CFX, and Lighting departments downstream.
• Collaborate with technical supervisors and production technology teams to develop and refine environment modeling tools, workflows, and asset libraries within the VFX pipeline.
• Provide production management with clear assessments of asset complexity and team progress to support realistic scheduling and prioritization decisions.
• Mentor modelers at various experience levels, identifying training needs and contributing to performance feedback and skill development across the department.

What You Bring

• Significant experience as an environment, set, or prop modeler in feature animation, VFX, or high-end game production, including time in a lead or supervisory capacity.
• A strong portfolio demonstrating environment and prop modeling across stylized and realistic production styles, with clear command of form, composition, and scale.
• Proficiency in Maya and sculpting tools such as ZBrush or Mudbox, with procedural or vegetation tools like Houdini or SpeedTree considered a plus.
• Solid working knowledge of how environment assets interact with downstream departments across a production pipeline in feature animation or VFX.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to give clear feedback and work across departments without friction.
