Paramount is hiring an Editor, Children’s, Global Publishing based in New York, NY. This role sits within Paramount’s Global Publishing division, where the editor acquires, develops, and oversees a children’s book program built around some of the most recognized franchises in animation and kids television, including PAW Patrol, SpongeBob SquarePants, Garfield, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. It suits an editorial professional with a background in licensed publishing who knows how to move a title from manuscript to finished product while keeping multiple brand stakeholders aligned.

About the Role

The Global Publishing team works cross-functionally with Paramount’s film, television, animation, franchise, and consumer products divisions to build out publishing programs tied to the studio’s IP. Day to day, this Editor, Children’s manages a list that spans storybooks, chapter books, beginning readers, activity and coloring titles, educational formats, and novelty books, handling everything from manuscript edits to art reviews to cover approvals. The role requires fluency in both the editorial and business sides of children’s publishing, including P&L oversight and negotiations with authors, illustrators, and agents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Edit manuscripts across multiple children’s publishing formats, maintaining brand accuracy against licensed animation and franchise properties.
  • Acquire new titles and shape editorial strategy for both vertical and licensed publishing programs.
  • Work directly with the art department to review sketch rounds, final art, and cover design across the full list.
  • Negotiate deal terms with authors, illustrators, and literary agents, and manage title-level P&Ls.
  • Cultivate ongoing relationships with licensees and internal brand, franchise, and consumer products teams to keep projects on brief.
  • Review marketing and publicity materials, and contribute in-house writing as needed.

What You Bring

  • A bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years of experience in children’s publishing, with licensed publishing experience strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, with working knowledge of Adobe products.
  • Experience with Photoshop and Illustrator is a plus for art review work.
  • Demonstrated P&L management skills and strong attention to grammar and editorial detail.
  • Comfort working across animation studio, consumer products, and brand management teams on licensed IP.
