About the Role

The Director, Homepage Programming reports into the VP of Programming and leads the team responsible for what audiences see first when they arrive at CNN’s digital platforms. This is a weekend-anchored role, working a four-day, 40-hour week that includes Saturday and Sunday, making it central to the weekend editorial strategy for one of the largest global news organisations in the world. Day-to-day, the work involves real-time content placement decisions across live video, text, audio, and visual formats, informed by analytics and coordinated with audience research and product teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a distributed team of digital editors programming CNN’s homepage and front-door surfaces across web, mobile web, and app platforms.
• Make real-time editorial calls during breaking news events, including content hierarchy, story rotation, and format prioritisation across digital publishing channels.
• Write and approve headlines, teases, and promotional copy that meet the editorial standards of a global broadcast news organisation.
• Monitor live audience analytics to adjust content placement dynamically and inform programming decisions throughout each shift.
• Partner with audience, data, and research teams to build a deeper understanding of how different user segments consume content across digital platforms.
• Develop and execute the weekend homepage programming strategy, working across live, text, visual, and video formats within a continuous news cycle.

What You Bring

• Extensive experience in digital journalism, editorial operations, or audience programming within a 24/7 news or media environment.
• Proven track record managing editorial teams across a global, always-on publishing operation.
• Strong working knowledge of digital content management systems, real-time analytics platforms, and cross-platform storytelling across text, video, and audio.
• Experience collaborating with product and design teams on homepage surfaces or digital storytelling tools.
• Demonstrated ability to balance immediate editorial instincts with longer-term programming strategy.
