Sony Pictures Imageworks is hiring an Experienced Compositor to join their VFX team in Montréal, Quebec. This role sits within the compositing department and is responsible for combining rendered animation, special effects, live-action plates, and digital elements into final images that meet the artistic direction of feature film production. It suits a compositor with a solid foundation in multi-layer comp work who is ready to handle a range of shots from simple to moderately complex on a professional studio pipeline.

About the Role

The Experienced Compositor works within a production environment that spans international teams, including collaborators in the United States and Europe, which means artistic direction, shot reviews, and technical communication regularly happen in English alongside French. Day-to-day work involves integrating foreground, midground, and background elements to extend sets and environments, and embedding digital characters and objects convincingly into filmed scenes. This is a full-time, project-specific position based at the Montréal studio on Rue Saint-Hubert.

Key Responsibilities

• Combine rendered animation, VFX elements, background plates, and live-action footage into polished final frames that satisfy the creative brief.
• Integrate foreground, midground, and background layers to extend practical sets, environments, and scenes within the VFX pipeline.
• Embed digital characters and objects into live-action or animated sequences, maintaining consistency in light, color, and grain across the comp.
• Create smooth transitions between filmed footage and composited content, ensuring visual continuity across shots and sequences.
• Work toward shot quotas and efficiency targets within the production schedule, flagging issues to the compositing supervisor as needed.
• Participate in cross-regional shot reviews and technical discussions with teams outside Quebec, conducting communication in both French and English as required.

What You Bring

• A minimum of 3 years of progressively complex experience in compositing, ideally within feature film production or long-form projects.
• Proficiency in Nuke, with a working knowledge of node-based compositing workflows used in high-volume VFX environments.
• Demonstrated ability to comp a variety of shot types, from straightforward clean-up work to moderately complex integration.
• A demo reel that clearly shows both artistic and technical range, including work relevant to the specific demands of this role.
• Strong communication skills in both French and English, given the international scope of productions at this studio.
