Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Zoic Studios is hiring a Senior Compositor for a stop motion VFX project, based remotely within British Columbia, Canada. This is a compositing department role focused on integrating stage and CG elements into final picture output for a stop motion animated feature film. If you have feature film compositing credits and a deep command of Nuke, this contract is built for someone at your level.

About the Role

You will be working inside the VFX pipeline on a stop motion animated feature, handling complex shot compositing and contributing to look development across sequences. The day-to-day involves combining physical stage photography with CG elements, managing color, grain, and integration to produce technically sound and visually convincing frames. The contract is expected to begin in May or June 2026 and run through the end of July or August 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and deliver comps that meet the creative and technical specifications of a stop motion animated feature film, applying color theory, photographic principles, and stage lighting knowledge throughout.
  • Execute a full range of compositing techniques including extractions, color grading, 2D and 3D compositing, CG integration, deep compositing, tracking, and roto and paint work.
  • Participate in look development for assigned shots and sequences, working across disciplines with other artists in the VFX pipeline.
  • Develop, document, and share workflows, custom Nuke toolsets, templates, and scripts to support consistent shot production across the team.
  • Identify areas for automation and productivity improvements in collaboration with artists in other departments.
  • Mentor and support junior compositors and new hires as production demands require.

What You Bring

  • Five or more years of digital compositing experience, with preference for feature film compositing credits.
  • Proficiency in Nuke and Nuke Studio or Hiero, plus Photoshop; familiarity with Silhouette is a plus.
  • Experience developing custom Nuke toolsets using Python3 or the Nuke NDK is an asset.
  • Working knowledge of Linux or another Unix-based operating system within a VFX pipeline environment.
  • Must be a resident of British Columbia and legally entitled to work in Canada as a citizen, permanent resident, or open work permit holder.

Why This Role

Zoic Studios is an artist-owned VFX company with a track record in high-end television, film, and advertising post-production. This project is a relatively rare opportunity to work on a stop motion animated feature, a format that demands precise compositing craft and offers credit on a distinctive production. The studio offers both remote work within BC and access to their Vancouver studio in the Gastown neighborhood near Waterfront Station.

Apply now for the Senior Compositor role at Zoic Studios and bring your feature film compositing experience to a project worth adding to your reel.
