Assistant Composer (Feature Film)

Majcherczyk Digital is hiring an Assistant Composer for its upcoming feature film production, based remotely with the company operating out of New York. This role sits inside the music department, supporting the Lead Composer through every stage of the scoring process, from early MIDI mockups and orchestration work through to final stem delivery for post-production integration. It suits an emerging film composer, music production graduate, or orchestrator who wants a real feature film credit and hands-on experience inside a working score pipeline.

About the Role

The Assistant Composer will work directly under the Lead Composer on #NOTHER, a narrative feature film developed by Majcherczyk Digital. Day-to-day work spans MIDI programming, translating notation scores into DAW sessions, syncing cues to picture, and keeping project files, stems, and versions organized across a remote production workflow. The role is freelance and project-based, with a start date of February 2027, and compensation is negotiated based on experience and project scope.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and refine MIDI mockups and demo cues using orchestral sample libraries, accurately reflecting the Lead Composer’s orchestration and dynamic markings.
• Transfer and adapt scores between notation software such as Sibelius, Dorico, or Finale and DAWs including Logic Pro or Cubase, preserving articulations and performance detail throughout.
• Sync and edit music cues to picture, managing revisions and version tracking across the full feature film scoring timeline.
• Prepare stems, exports, and final audio deliverables formatted for review and post-production integration.
• Maintain session organization, project file backups, and virtual instrument template workflows across the remote music department.
• Research musical references and stylistic influences relevant to the project, contributing creative input under the direction of the Lead Composer.

What You Bring

• Working knowledge of at least one major DAW, Logic Pro, Cubase, Pro Tools, or Ableton Live, used in a scoring or music production context.
• Familiarity with notation software, Sibelius, Dorico, or Finale, and the ability to translate written scores accurately into production sessions.
• Experience with orchestral sample libraries and virtual instruments, even at a student or personal project level.
• A foundational understanding of film scoring, harmony, orchestration, and how music functions within cinematic storytelling.
• The ability to manage your own schedule, meet deadlines, and communicate clearly inside a remote production environment.
