Mikros Animation in Montreal is building a pipeline of interest for a Senior Groom Artist (Blender) ahead of anticipated openings on a confidential animation feature project. This role sits within the Character department, where the focus is producing hero-quality hair and fur descriptions for production assets, working directly from concept art and approved character designs. About the Role

The Senior Groom Artist works under the Groom Supervisor and Character Supervisor, contributing to character, creature, and prop assets across a feature film production workflow. Day-to-day work involves grooming, calibrating, and in some cases shading hair and fur elements, while keeping assets in sync with the technical demands of Modeling, Rigging, and Surfacing teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Create hair and fur grooms for animated characters, creatures, and accessories, using Blender, with reference to the established artistic direction of the project.
• Ensure all asset deliveries meet the technical specifications of the production pipeline and internal VFX workflow standards.
• Contribute to the development and refinement of grooming tools used within the department.
• Troubleshoot creative and technical issues on assets, finding solutions that satisfy both the Supervisor and the Director’s notes.
• Coordinate with the Modeling, Rigging, and Surfacing departments to resolve cross-discipline technical requirements on each asset.
• Manage personal workload to meet production quotas and deadlines set by Production Coordinators, and present work clearly in review sessions.

What You Bring

• Senior-level experience as a Groom Artist on feature film production or high-end animation studio projects.
• Strong working knowledge of Blender as a grooming tool, with a clear understanding of hair and fur simulation within a feature animation context.
• Demonstrated ability to interpret concept art and translate 2D designs into technically sound, production-ready groom assets.
• Experience collaborating across Character, Surfacing, and Rigging departments within a structured animation pipeline.
• Ability to take and action creative direction efficiently, with a track record of on-time asset delivery.
