Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Per Project
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Rodeo FX is hiring an Animation Artist on a temporary contract basis in Paris. This role sits within the animation department and is focused on delivering high-end, hyper-realistic character, creature, and object performances for film and television VFX production. It suits a mid-level to senior animator who is comfortable working across both realistic and stylized performance styles within a structured VFX pipeline.

About the Role

The Animation Artist works directly under an Animation Lead and Supervisor, contributing to shot-level work across feature film and episodic television projects handled by the Paris studio. Day to day, you are animating assigned shots, attending dailies, incorporating notes, and handing off clean, export-ready scenes to downstream departments. Production timelines are real, and your ability to manage your own workload and flag issues early is part of the job.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver polished animation performances across creature, character, and mechanical asset types, applying core principles of timing, weight, arcs, and posing to match the project’s artistic direction.
  • Interpret creative briefs and reference materials to build nuanced, shot-specific performances that serve the story and hold up under supervisor review.
  • Ensure all animation scenes are technically clean, correctly named, and structured to meet pipeline standards before handoff to rigging and downstream departments.
  • Anticipate and troubleshoot rig or scene-level technical issues in coordination with the technical team, keeping production moving without waiting for problems to escalate.
  • Participate actively in dailies and review sessions, presenting work clearly and incorporating feedback constructively across revision cycles.
  • Share approaches and techniques with peers and engage with any internal mentorship or learning initiatives the studio runs.

What You Bring

  • Demonstrated credits in VFX animation for feature film or high-end episodic television production.
  • Strong working knowledge of Maya for character and creature animation within a professional VFX pipeline.
  • Solid understanding of animation principles applied to both photoreal and stylized performance contexts.
  • Ability to read and respond to technical and creative notes efficiently within production deadlines.
  • Experience maintaining pipeline file conventions and working within a structured, multi-department production environment.

Why This Role

Rodeo FX is a well-regarded VFX studio with credits across major studio features and premium television, and the Paris location sits within a strong European production market. This temporary contract offers direct exposure to high-end animation work on productions that reach wide audiences. For an animator looking to work at a serious VFX studio alongside experienced leads and supervisors, this is a substantive credit.
