Most screenwriting guides skip straight to structure and dialogue, treating scene headings as a one-line formality. That is a mistake. Sluglines control how readers, directors, ADs, and production software parse your entire script, and a sloppy heading can quietly signal amateur work before the scene even begins.
Most screenwriters know what a treatment is supposed to be. Far fewer know how to write one that actually works. A weak treatment kills a strong script before anyone ever reads page one, and for indie filmmakers pitching to producers, financiers, or grant committees, it is often the only document that gets read.

Every screenwriting teacher tells you to use subtext. Almost none of them explain how to actually put it on the page. Subtext is not a vague artistic instinct reserved for seasoned writers. It is a craft technique with specific mechanics, and once you understand those mechanics, you can use it deliberately in every scene you write.
