Project Type: TV Series
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

WIN TV is hiring a casual ENG Camera Operator/Editor based in Hobart, Tasmania. This role sits within the news production department, covering local stories and current affairs content for broadcast television, operating ENG gear in the field and cutting packages through to air. It suits a self-shooting editor who is comfortable owning a story from the initial shoot through to finished broadcast output with minimal supervision.

About the Role

Working within the Hobart news team at WIN TV, Australia’s largest commercial television network, this person handles the full electronic news gathering workflow across regional news and current affairs programming. A typical day moves between field acquisition and edit suite work, turning around broadcast-ready packages under deadline pressure. The casual nature of the role means availability across varied shifts, including breaking news coverage.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate ENG camera systems in the field to capture news footage across a range of story types, from court coverage to community events in and around Hobart.
  • Edit news packages and segments to broadcast specifications using non-linear editing software, meeting strict on-air deadlines.
  • Record and mix location audio, managing levels and monitoring sync to ensure clean broadcast-quality sound throughout acquisition.
  • Coordinate with reporters and producers during pre-production and in the field to structure story coverage and anticipate editorial requirements.
  • Maintain and perform basic technical checks on ENG and editing equipment, flagging faults to engineering staff promptly.
  • Ingest, log, and manage footage within the newsroom production workflow, keeping media organised across multiple concurrent stories.

What You Bring

  • Demonstrated experience as an ENG Camera Operator/Editor within a broadcast television or news production environment.
  • Proficiency with non-linear editing platforms used in broadcast post-production workflow, such as Avid Media Composer or Adobe Premiere Pro.
  • A working understanding of broadcast camera systems, lenses, and field lighting relevant to news acquisition.
  • A track record of delivering broadcast-ready content to tight deadlines across daily news or episodic television formats.
  • Strong location audio skills, including boom operation and radio mic placement in unpredictable field conditions.

Why This Role

WIN TV operates across one of the broadest regional broadcast footprints in Australia, which means the work produced in Hobart reaches a genuine audience at scale. Casual roles within established commercial television networks are a real entry point into ongoing broadcast production work, with exposure to the full news production cycle. The Hobart market offers consistent regional news volume, making this a substantive role rather than a filler position.
