This role sits within the live sports broadcast production team, responsible for capturing game action, player moments, and crowd coverage for both the arena videoboard and live stream output. It suits a camera operator with a background in live sports production or broadcast videography who can read game flow and execute clean shots under pressure.

About the Role

The Camera Operator works directly within the arena production crew for Trenton IronHawks hockey games, contributing to the in-game entertainment and live streaming workflow from setup through teardown. This is the inaugural hockey season at CURE Insurance Arena, so the production team is building its coverage approach from the ground up. A typical game day involves pre-show equipment checks, following a game script and production cues, and reacting instinctively to live hockey action as it unfolds.

Key Responsibilities

• Capture live hockey game footage including key plays, player movement, and crowd reactions for videoboard and live stream broadcast.
• Perform full camera checks before each game, including white balance, iris, focus, gain, and wireless signal to confirm image quality meets broadcast standards.
• Assist the production team with pre-game setup and equipment testing, including troubleshooting any technical issues before going live.
• Follow game scripts and production cues to anticipate required shots while staying ready to shift coverage based on in-game developments.
• Execute smooth shot transitions to maintain consistent broadcast quality across game action, player moments, and arena atmosphere.
• Set up, maintain, and strike all camera equipment before and after each event, ensuring gear is properly stored for the next production day.

What You Bring

• One to four years of experience in live sports production, broadcast videography, or livestreaming, with prior live sports camera work preferred.
• Working knowledge of camera fundamentals including shutter speed, aperture, gain, audio levels, and wireless camera systems.
• Ability to frame and compose shots cleanly in a live broadcast environment with no opportunity for retakes.
• Basic understanding of ice hockey rules and game flow, with a willingness to develop hockey-specific camera skills over the season.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework in broadcasting, film production, or sports media is a plus.
