Job Position(s): Diet Pop
Project Type: TV Series
Job Date: Per Project
Compensation: See Post

Vancouver Actors Guide is casting performers for Diet Pop, a short film production based in Vancouver, BC. This is an on-camera acting role under the UBCP Ultra Low Budget agreement, bringing performers onto a filmmaker-driven short film set for a principal shooting day. Diet Pop suits performers at any experience level who are looking to work alongside a producing team with serious independent film and television credits behind them.

About the Role

Diet Pop is a short film production assembled by a collective of Vancouver filmmakers with credits spanning independent features, episodic television, and award-recognized short films that have screened at festivals and on platforms including CBC Gem and OUTtv. The producing team has participated in major Canadian talent development programs including VIFF Catalyst, Netflix-BANFF Diversity of Voices, Reelworld, Telefilm Talent to Watch, and Crazy8s. Several members of the team work across multiple disciplines as writers, directors, actors, and cinematographers, which shapes how they run a set and how they engage with performers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform principal or supporting roles on set under the UBCP Ultra Low Budget agreement on a volunteer basis.
  • Bring prepared, grounded character work that holds up in a short film production context where shooting schedules are tight and takes are purposeful.
  • Take direction from a filmmaker-led team that prioritizes strong, specific performances over coverage.
  • Engage with inclusive storytelling material crafted by a team that has a documented track record in diversity-focused development programs.
  • Represent yourself professionally through submitted materials including a current headshot and recent photo, with a resume and demo reel welcomed if available.

What You Bring

  • Eligibility to work under the UBCP Ultra Low Budget agreement in British Columbia.
  • A current headshot and recent photo suitable for short film casting review.
  • Any level of on-camera experience, from emerging performers to those with existing short film or television credits.
  • A resume and demo reel are welcome additions if you have them, but are not required to submit.

Why This Role

The team behind Diet Pop has collectively built a track record in Canadian independent film production that is rare for a short film project, with festival screenings, platform distribution, and national talent program recognition across the group. This is a set run by filmmakers who are also performers themselves, which tends to make for a more performer-aware shoot. Vancouver Actors Guide is connecting local talent with a production that is built to have a life beyond the shoot day.

Submit your materials for Diet Pop through Vancouver Actors Guide and get in front of one of Vancouver’s more experienced short film producing teams working at the ultra low budget level today.
