About the Role

The Sr Technical Director joins ESPN’s Studio Operations group, working directly with directors and control room crews across live broadcast television productions and special event coverage. This is a hands-on control room position, not a supervisory one, and the volume and variety of live production output here is among the heaviest in broadcast television.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate video switchers at an expert level during live broadcast television productions, managing sources, displays, and external device interfaces in real time.
• Build and maintain effects packages for multiple productions, coordinating documentation and communication across the full Technical Directing team.
• Demonstrate deep knowledge of plant signal flow and routing to identify and resolve operational errors or equipment failures during live broadcast.
• Take a lead role during special event coverage, including planning, execution, and post-event reporting to management.
• Develop and deliver training programs and documentation for other operators, creating learning opportunities that build the team’s technical capabilities.
• Prioritize and distribute critical information to control room crews during production to keep live broadcast workflow on track.

What You Bring

• Minimum six years of practical experience in broadcast production or a related technical role at the large-market or network level.
• Proven ability to operate professional broadcast switchers and manage complex live production workflows under strict time constraints.
• Solid working knowledge of broadcast signal routing, suite configuration, and control room operations specific to live television.
• Experience leading training initiatives and producing technical documentation for broadcast operations teams.
• Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays, with flexibility to shift schedules based on production demands.
