Disney is hiring a Live Entertainment Lighting Design Intern, Spring 2027, based in Anaheim, CA. This role sits within Disney Live Entertainment’s Lighting Design Team, where the work centers on producing light plots, design documentation, and technical drawings for parades, stage shows, and special events across Disney theme parks and resort properties. It suits a junior, senior, or graduate student in technical theater who wants hands-on experience inside a major live entertainment production workflow.

About the Role

The Lighting Design Team develops and executes lighting concepts across a range of live show formats, from intimate stage productions to large-scale park spectaculars. Interns work directly alongside lighting designers through the full technical production process, supporting both the creative development and documentation phases of live show design. A typical day might involve drafting in Vectorworks, updating ConnectCAD drawings, or sitting in on cross-departmental production meetings with safety, facilities, and production teams.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support lighting designers in generating and maintaining light plots and design intent documents across multiple live entertainment productions simultaneously.
  • Produce technical drawings using Vectorworks and ConnectCAD to meet the documentation standards required at each stage of the live show production workflow.
  • Assist with design and technical research to inform fixture selection, rigging approaches, and effects choices for parades, stage shows, and special events.
  • Attend Disney Live Entertainment department and project production meetings, contributing notes, updates, and follow-up documentation as needed.
  • Partner with cross-functional departments including production, safety, and facilities teams to ensure lighting designs meet both creative and operational requirements.
  • Ensure all design and technical materials consistently reflect established quality and presentation standards across the live entertainment production slate.

What You Bring

  • Current enrollment as a junior, senior, or graduate student pursuing a degree in technical theater or a closely related field, with preference given to MFA candidates in technical design.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Vectorworks, ConnectCAD, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, and Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of stage lighting technology, equipment, and the conventions of live entertainment production.
  • A valid US driver’s license with the ability to operate a company vehicle, plus unrestricted US work authorization.
  • Availability for the full internship duration, approximately January 2027 through June 2027.

Why This Role

Disney Live Entertainment produces work seen across theme parks, resort hotels, and cruise ships globally, giving interns direct exposure to live show production at a scale most technical theater programs cannot replicate. The pay rate for this role in Anaheim, CA is $21.13 per hour, with select benefits available depending on position level. For anyone building toward a career in live entertainment lighting design or theatrical production, the breadth of formats covered here, parades, stage shows, and special events, offers real range.
