About the Role

The WDI Set Decorator Intern supports Principal and Senior Set Decorators across active theme park design and installation projects, working within a department that interfaces daily with Creative, Architectural, Show Ride, and Park Operations teams. On any given day, this person might be pulling research for a period-accurate prop scheme, tracking paperwork on a design package, or out in the field assisting with prop placement and dress during a park installation. The work sits at the intersection of themed entertainment and production design, requiring the same discipline and attention to story detail you would bring to a film or television set.

Key Responsibilities

• Support design development and help communicate set decoration concepts to cross-functional show teams including Show Art and Engineering.
• Maintain design paperwork and document implemented decoration across attraction, retail, and dining environments.
• Assist with field installation of props and dressings, including third-shift work after park close when the production schedule requires it.
• Research historical references and material technologies to inform period-specific or story-accurate decoration choices.
• Support mock-ups and presentations, handling both set-up and strike of physical presentation materials.
• Read and work from architectural drawing packages to ensure prop placement aligns with approved show design intent.

What You Bring

• Currently enrolled as a junior or higher in Interior Design, Technical Theatre, Dimensional Design, Architectural Modeling, Applied Media Arts, or a related field.
• Working knowledge of props or set decoration from theatre, film, or television production environments.
• Ability to read architectural drawings and work with construction materials, hardware, and hand tools.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word; familiarity with Photoshop, Illustrator, or SketchUp is preferred.
• Ability to work at heights above 30 feet and lift 15 to 20 pounds, with a valid driver’s license required.
