Job Position(s): Real-Time Unreal Artist — Remote/Hybrid VFX Cinematics
Project Type: Animation
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Goodbye Kansas is hiring a Real-Time Unreal Artist to join their VFX and Cinematics division in London, working on a hybrid basis. This role sits within the real-time production pipeline, focused on delivering high-end game cinematics and VFX output using Unreal Engine as the primary production tool. It suits an experienced Unreal artist who has moved beyond experimental work and has commercial credits to show for it.

About the Role

You will be embedded in the VFX and Cinematics team at Goodbye Kansas, contributing to real-time productions that include high-profile game cinematic projects. Day to day, this means working within an established Unreal Engine pipeline alongside artists, directors, and production to hit quality and delivery targets. The hybrid model means time split between the London studio and remote work, so comfort with both environments matters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain real-time environments, lighting setups, and scene assemblies within Unreal Engine to cinematic production standards.
  • Work within the VFX pipeline to integrate assets, ensuring technical and visual consistency across game cinematic sequences.
  • Collaborate closely with the VFX supervisor and creative leads to translate brief and storyboard into polished real-time output.
  • Troubleshoot and optimise scene performance without compromising the visual quality required for final delivery.
  • Participate in reviews, responding to notes and iterating efficiently within production schedules.
  • Contribute to pipeline development by flagging technical issues and suggesting workflow improvements grounded in practical Unreal Engine experience.

What You Bring

  • A minimum of three years of hands-on Unreal Engine experience in a commercial production context.
  • A portfolio that demonstrates finished work across real-time production, game cinematics, or comparable VFX pipeline projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of Unreal Engine’s lighting, sequencer, and material systems as used in professional post-production workflow.
  • Experience working within a structured VFX or animation studio environment, not just personal or student projects.
  • Ability to manage your own time and output effectively across both remote and on-site working arrangements.

Why This Role

Goodbye Kansas has a well-established reputation in the VFX and animation studio space, with a production slate that spans game cinematics and high-end real-time productions at a level most artists spend years working toward. The London team offers genuine access to senior artists and a production culture that takes craft seriously. For a Real-Time Unreal Artist looking to build credits on recognisable commercial work, this is a substantive step.
