Sony Pictures Animation is hiring a Feature Editor based in Los Angeles, California to join their production team on animated feature film projects. This role sits at the center of the post-production workflow, responsible for shaping cuts from early animatics through final picture delivery in collaboration with directors, producers, and studio executives. It suits an experienced editorial professional with a background in animation or feature film production who can hold both the creative and technical sides of a cut simultaneously.

About the Role

The Feature Editor works within the editorial department across Sony Pictures Animation’s animated feature slate, a studio known for producing projects that push the boundaries of visual storytelling. Day to day, this means assembling and refining cuts, preparing materials for internal screenings and creative reviews, and staying in close communication with animation artists, VFX teams, and post-production coordinators to keep assets moving through the pipeline. The role carries real creative weight, with the Editor contributing meaningfully to pacing, performance, tone, and story structure from development through delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Shape editorial cuts across pacing, dialogue, performance, music, and sound design to support the creative vision of each animated feature.
  • Assemble and refine animatics during pre-production, then carry the cut through to final picture as the project moves through the animation pipeline.
  • Prepare and present editorial materials for screenings, studio review sessions, and external deliveries to production leadership and executives.
  • Coordinate with VFX, animation, and post-production teams to manage asset delivery and maintain efficient editorial workflows across the production schedule.
  • Implement revisions resulting from creative notes sessions and screenings, managing multiple rounds of changes with accuracy and organization.
  • Support temp mix and sound integration processes, working alongside external sound teams during audio review stages of post-production.

What You Bring

  • 5 or more years of editorial experience in animation, feature film production, or episodic television.
  • High proficiency in Avid Media Composer, the primary editing platform used in this role.
  • Demonstrated understanding of animated feature or television production pipelines, from pre-production through final delivery.
  • Strong storytelling instincts with working knowledge of cinematic pacing, visual continuity, and performance editing.
  • This position is covered under the Motion Picture Editors Guild through the Sony Pictures Animation Agreement.

Why This Role

Sony Pictures Animation has built a reputation for giving filmmakers genuine creative ownership over their projects, which translates directly into the editorial department having a real seat at the table from early development onward. The anticipated base salary for this position is $3,232 per week to $4,500 per week, and the role qualifies for benefits pursuant to the collective bargaining agreement. For an Editor with animation experience looking to work at the feature level with a studio that treats editorial as a creative discipline rather than a finishing step, this is a substantive opportunity.

Apply now for the Feature Editor position at Sony Pictures Animation and bring your editorial experience to one of animation’s most creatively ambitious studios.
