Warner Bros. Discovery is hiring a Head of Documentary, Original Production for its HBO Max streaming operation, based across Oslo and Stockholm. This is a commissioning and editorial leadership role within the original unscripted team, responsible for building and delivering a slate of Nordic documentary originals from pitch through to final delivery. It suits a senior documentary executive who has spent meaningful time inside a streamer or broadcaster, knows the Nordic talent base, and has the track record to back it up.

About the Role

The Head of Documentary sits within WBD’s Nordic original production division, overseeing unscripted development and production across multiple markets. Day to day, this means reading pitches, giving cuts notes, managing production pipelines, and keeping a slate of original documentary projects on schedule and on brief for HBO Max. The work spans development through post-production, with close collaboration with directors, independent producers, and internal teams across legal, finance, and marketing.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead documentary development across the Nordics, from initial pitch assessment through greenlight decisions, shaping a slate that meets HBO Max’s editorial standards and audience expectations.
• Provide detailed script, treatment, and cut feedback to directors and producers, with a clear focus on narrative structure and factual accuracy throughout the production process.
• Manage development and production pipelines across multiple Nordic markets, maintaining alignment on timelines, delivery schedules, and budget parameters.
• Identify and champion original documentary ideas that carry both local resonance and international streaming appeal, supporting the commissioning process end to end.
• Build relationships across the Nordic documentary community, including independent production companies, directors, and co-production partners with multi-market reach.
• Ensure all projects meet WBD compliance, editorial integrity, and brand standards, coordinating with legal and operations teams through to final delivery.

What You Bring

• Extensive experience in documentary development and production, with a strong delivery record inside a streamer, broadcaster, or major production company.
• Deep editorial judgement across the full unscripted production workflow, from concept through post-production and final output.
• Solid knowledge of the Nordic documentary landscape, including familiarity with regional talent, production companies, and funding structures.
• Experience managing a slate across multiple projects and markets simultaneously, with an understanding of co-production and international distribution.
• Fluency in English and at least one Nordic language, with comfort working across multi-market teams.
