Job Position(s): Modeler (All Levels) - ILM London
Project Type: Feature Film
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

ILM London, part of Disney, is hiring a Modeler at all experience levels to join their London-based VFX team. This role sits within ILM’s modeling department, where the focus is on delivering production-ready CG characters, digital doubles, creatures, and hard-surface assets for feature film projects. It suits a VFX artist with a solid portfolio of photorealistic modeling work and real experience inside a feature film production pipeline.

About the Role

The modeling team at ILM works closely with texture artists, riggers, and animators to develop assets that move through the full CG pipeline from initial sculpt to final shot. Day-to-day work involves building and refining 3D characters and environments, taking part in team reviews, and making sure geometry holds up to the technical demands of feature film production. This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of two days on-site per week at the London studio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and construct 3D characters, digital doubles, and CG creatures with close attention to anatomy, form, and production-ready topology suited for rigging and animation.
  • Build hard-surface models and contribute to environmental asset construction as required by the production schedule.
  • Work directly with texture artists and creature development teams to ensure assets meet both artistic and technical specifications.
  • Apply advanced geometry techniques and procedural workflows to produce models that integrate cleanly into the VFX pipeline.
  • Participate in creative reviews, provide constructive feedback on in-progress work, and incorporate notes from supervisors and leads.
  • Manage personal workload across multiple assets, meeting deadlines within the demands of a feature film production schedule.

What You Bring

  • Proven professional experience in VFX modeling and sculpting, with a portfolio or demo reel demonstrating photorealistic assets.
  • Proficiency in Maya and ZBrush, the primary tools used across ILM’s modeling workflow.
  • Credits in feature film or high-end production environments are required.
  • Familiarity with subdivision surface modeling and node-based or procedural workflows is a strong advantage.
  • A working understanding of the full CG pipeline, including how modeling feeds into texturing, rigging, and animation.

Why This Role

ILM is one of the most established visual effects studios in the industry, with a London facility that has contributed to some of the most technically demanding feature film productions in recent years. For a modeler looking to build credits at the highest level of VFX production, this is a direct route into that work. The all-levels scope of the hire means both mid-level artists and more experienced modelers have a genuine path in.

Submit your application for the Modeler role at ILM London today, including a demo reel or shot breakdown that represents your best production work.
