About the Role

The Show Director works within the broadcast production department at the number one cable news network in the country, overseeing live and live-to-tape executions across FOX News Channel, FOX Business Network, and FOX Weather properties. A typical day means running the control room for scheduled news programs, coordinating with producers on show flow, and staying ready to pivot when breaking news rewrites the rundown. New show launches and studio builds are also part of the scope, placing the Show Director inside the architectural process from camera blocking through first air.

Key Responsibilities

• Call all camera shots, graphics, and transitions live on air across news, business, and weather formats, maintaining broadcast standards throughout every segment.
• Partner with producers during pre-production to develop visual concepts, refine show aesthetics, and establish camera blocking for new program launches.
• Lead the control room crew through breaking news situations, making split-second editorial and technical decisions while keeping the team focused and on schedule.
• Operate in both conventional directing and automation directing environments, with Technical Director crossover as a valued additional capability.
• Coordinate with on-air talent, audio engineers, and studio technical staff to maintain consistent visual and audio standards across all live television production.
• Participate in studio planning for new set builds, contributing a director-level perspective on camera positions, sightlines, and broadcast workflow.

What You Bring

• Five or more years directing live television news, specials, or related broadcast production in a professional control room environment.
• Demonstrated proficiency in both conventional and automation directing systems used in broadcast news workflows.
• A director’s reel featuring a dedicated director’s track, available upon request during the hiring process.
• The ability to work all shifts including nights, overnights, weekends, and holidays as required by a live news operation.
• Strong working knowledge of current events and the editorial instincts to make fast visual decisions when a story breaks.
