Job Type
Disney is hiring an Art Director for Marvel Games, based on-site in Burbank, CA. This role sits within Marvel’s internal games division, where the Art Director oversees visual development across a diverse portfolio of mobile, console, PC, and VR game titles, working directly with external development studios to maintain brand integrity and elevate art quality. It suits a senior-level concept artist or game art director who has spent years working inside or alongside major game development pipelines and knows how to translate IP-driven creative direction into polished, production-ready output.
About the Role
Marvel Games operates as the internal creative authority for all Marvel-licensed game titles, partnering with external studios across every stage of development from pre-production through live operations. The Art Director works under the Senior Art Director to manage visual direction on multiple projects simultaneously, covering everything from character and environment design reviews to style guide creation and brand alignment sessions. Day-to-day work involves giving hands-on art feedback through paintovers and draw-overs, attending internal creative summits, and helping partner studios define a distinct visual identity for each title within the broader Marvel universe.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead visual development across multiple Marvel game titles in various genres and production stages, ensuring each project maintains a consistent and authentic connection to the Marvel IP.
- Provide detailed art feedback on 2D concepts, 3D assets, animation, VFX, and UI using paintovers, mockups, and draw-overs to communicate specific improvements to external development teams.
- Develop style guides and visual brand guidelines that establish clear parameters for character design, environment art, and overall product identity across the gaming portfolio.
- Research emerging visual styles and techniques relevant to the game development pipeline, and identify new creative approaches suitable for upcoming products and partners.
- Attend film and television screenings and creative summits to stay current on Marvel brand developments across comics, film, and episodic television, then share that knowledge with partner studios.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute original Marvel artwork on an as-needed basis to support partner studios during production.
What You Bring
- Expert-level ability in color, light, composition, and character design with a portfolio demonstrating work across multiple visual styles and genres.
- Strong draftsmanship and painting skills, with the speed to sketch and iterate quickly and the range to take concepts to a fully polished execution.
- Solid understanding of current game development pipelines, both 2D and 3D, including the technical tradeoffs common in console, mobile, and VR production environments.
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop is required; hands-on experience with a 3D package such as Maya or 3DS Max is a plus.
- A working knowledge of graphic design principles and heroic character proportions specific to superhero-driven IP.
Why This Role

This is an on-site position in Burbank that puts you inside the creative review process for titles that reach a global player base, with direct exposure to the broader Marvel film and television creative ecosystem.
