Rodeo FX in Montreal is collecting expressions of interest for a Compositing Supervisor to fill future openings as they come up on the slate. This role sits at the top of the compositing department, owning the quality and methodology of all comp output across a production from first shot to final delivery. It suits a senior compositor who has moved into leadership and knows how to hold a department together under the pressure of real VFX pipeline deadlines.

About the Role

The Compositing Supervisor works directly alongside the VFX Supervisor and CG Supervisor, translating the client’s creative vision into a compositing approach that holds up technically and fits within the Rodeo FX pipeline. Day to day, that means running dailies, reviewing shots and sequences, managing artist workloads, and stepping in on complex work when it needs a senior hand. This is a production-facing role as much as it is a creative one, requiring someone comfortable moving between artistic feedback and hard deadline conversations.

Key Responsibilities

• Establish the compositing workflow and methodology at the start of a project in collaboration with the Head of Department and production team, accounting for budgets, schedules, and technical requirements.
• Run dailies sessions to review shots and sequences, ensuring all work aligns with the client’s artistic direction and meets the studio’s quality standards.
• Assign shots and sequences to artists based on their skill level, coordinating with production to balance workloads across the team.
• Identify the need for custom tool development, participate in building those tools, and ensure they are tested and documented before being integrated into the VFX pipeline.
• Mentor and train compositing and prep artists, providing direct feedback and communicating specific training needs to the Head of Department.
• Monitor project milestones, flag issues early, and escalate recurring or serious problems to the Head of Department before they affect delivery.

What You Bring

• Several years of compositing experience in feature film or episodic television VFX production, with at least one full project in a supervisory or lead capacity.
• Deep working knowledge of Nuke and familiarity with common post-production workflow tools used in high-volume VFX facilities.
• Demonstrated ability to give clear artistic direction and hold a team accountable to both creative and technical standards.
• Experience participating in shot bids, artist casting, or production planning at the department level.
• Comfortable working within a structured pipeline environment and contributing to pipeline improvement through tool development or documentation.
