Warner Bros. Discovery
Category
Job Type
Warner Bros. Discovery is hiring a Director, Creative Development for its WB Pictures label, based in Burbank, CA. This role sits at the center of the studio’s feature film development pipeline, responsible for sourcing and shepherding projects from initial pitch through production-ready packages. It is a fit for an experienced development executive who has spent real time in the theatrical space and knows how to move a script from a rough outline to a greenlit film.
About the Role
The Director, Creative Development operates within WB Pictures’ creative development department, working across original pitches, optioned IP, and writer-driven projects that feed the studio’s theatrical slate. Day-to-day work involves reading scripts, giving notes, tracking the talent marketplace, and staying in close contact with agents, managers, and producers to keep projects moving. This person interfaces regularly with Production, Marketing, Distribution, Business Affairs, and Finance, so an understanding of how those departments affect a film’s lifecycle is essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Source and evaluate feature film material across original pitches, spec scripts, books, articles, and underlying IP, with an eye toward both commercial viability and cultural traction.
- Deliver detailed, actionable script notes and coverage on screenplays, treatments, outlines, and filmmaker decks at all stages of development.
- Identify and track emerging writers, directors, and producers whose work aligns with the studio’s theatrical slate strategy.
- Maintain an active network of agents, managers, talent, and producers, serving as a reliable point of contact for the broader entertainment community.
- Monitor the competitive feature film landscape, including marketplace trends, talent availability, and audience patterns, to inform slate decisions.
- Prepare project updates, talent assessments, and development recommendations for senior leadership, and present those materials clearly and concisely.
What You Bring
- Five or more years of creative development experience at a studio, streamer, or production company, with at least one to two years at the coordinator or manager level.
- A track record of developing feature film projects from early concept through production, not just coverage and tracking.
- Strong script coverage and written communication skills that hold up under the scrutiny of senior creative executives.
- An established network within the theatrical film ecosystem, including relationships with representation and producing communities.
- The ability to work onsite in Burbank on a regular basis.
Why This Role
Warner Bros. Discovery carries one of the most recognizable theatrical film libraries in the industry, and the WB Pictures label continues to be a major player in wide-release feature film production. The Director, Creative Development role offers direct access to senior leadership and a seat at the table during slate planning, which is rare at this level. For a development executive looking to shape what actually gets made rather than just process submissions, this is the right place to do it.
Apply now for the Director, Creative Development position at Warner Bros. Discovery and bring your feature film development experience to one of the most storied studios in the business.
