Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Disney is hiring an FX Artist for Disney Television Animation, based on-site in Glendale, CA. This role sits within the animation production pipeline, responsible for creating all effects animation across assigned scenes, from water and fire to smoke, debris, electrical, and lighting effects. It suits a 2D effects animator with television credits who can read a style guide and match a show’s established visual language from day one.

About the Role

Disney Television Animation has been producing kids and family content for over 40 years, spanning traditional 2D, rig-based 2D, CG, and stop-motion formats across both long-form and short-form episodic television. This FX Artist position is tied to an unannounced series, meaning you will be embedded in a production from an early stage, working directly from animatics and design packs to build effects that serve the story. Day to day, that means pulling timing references, interpreting FX design sheets, and delivering polished effects animation that holds up against the rest of the board.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce all FX animation for assigned scenes, covering elements including water, fire, smoke, dust, debris, electrical, and lighting effects.
  • Work from design packs and animatics to ensure effects are on-model and consistent with the visual style established for the series.
  • Apply strong foundational animation principles, including weight, timing, and motion, to make effects feel physically grounded within the 2D animation pipeline.
  • Design and animate a range of prop and effects styles across different production needs as they arise during the series run.
  • Work within drawing software including Photoshop and Illustrator, with Toon Boom Harmony experience considered an asset for this production workflow.

What You Bring

  • Demonstrated 2D FX animation experience specifically within television animation production.
  • A portfolio showing a range of effects design and animation styles across multiple production types.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop and Illustrator, with working knowledge of 3D technology where applicable.
  • Highly developed drawing skills and a clear understanding of animation principles as applied to effects work.
  • A bachelor’s degree in animation or a related field, or equivalent professional production experience.

Why This Role

Disney Television Animation is one of the few animation studios producing content across this many formats simultaneously, which means genuine variety in the kinds of productions an FX artist can contribute to over time. This position is covered under a Collective Bargaining Agreement, with a pay rate of $59.16 to $64.62 per hour in California, plus benefits including medical and financial packages. This evergreen posting will expire on December 31, 2026, and applications may be considered for any FX Artist openings that arise within that window.

Apply now for the FX Artist role at Disney Television Animation and bring your effects work to one of the most established animation studios in the industry.
