Job Position(s): Manager, Physical Production Legal
Project Type: Series
Job Date: Full Time
Compensation: Paid - Salary

Netflix is hiring a Manager, Physical Production Legal – Original Series based in Los Angeles, California. This role sits within the Physical Production Legal team and is responsible for structuring, drafting, and negotiating the below-the-line agreements that keep episodic television productions moving from development through post. It is a strong fit for a legal or business affairs professional with deep roots in physical production who knows the difference between a location agreement and a facilities lease and why both matter on a tight shoot schedule.

About the Role

The Physical Production Legal team supports Netflix’s slate of original series, covering the full production lifecycle across development, pre-production, production, post-production, and launch. On any given day, this person might be negotiating a department head deal in the morning, clearing a drone rental agreement by lunch, and advising a Line Producer on a complex vendor dispute by end of day. The role requires someone who can sit comfortably at the intersection of episodic television production workflow and legal risk assessment without needing much hand-holding.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary legal contact for all below-the-line matters across the full production lifecycle of Netflix original series.
  • Draft and negotiate production agreements covering department heads, casting directors, Line Producers, UPMs, short-term production services, and post-production vendors.
  • Structure location agreements, stage and production office leases, equipment rentals, vehicle rentals, aviation and watercraft agreements, and visual effects contracts.
  • Communicate risk assessments and legal solutions clearly to production partners including Production Office Coordinators, Location Managers, and external producers during complex negotiations.
  • Resolve production legal issues efficiently to avoid schedule delays, working across Business Affairs, Labor, Finance, VFX, Tax, Health and Safety, and Risk Management teams.
  • Contribute to team policy development and provide guidance to junior team members on workflows and deal standards.

What You Bring

  • Five to eight years of experience in a business or legal affairs role within film or television production, specifically handling below-the-line agreements.
  • An undergraduate degree is required; a JD or Paralegal certification is accepted but not mandatory for this position.
  • Proven track record negotiating physical production agreements across episodic television or feature film production, ideally within a studio or streamer environment.
  • Experience managing productions outside the US/Canada region is valued, though the slate is primarily UCAN-based.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and cloud-based document and database management systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess legal and business risk independently under tight production timelines.

Why This Role

Netflix operates one of the largest original series slates in the world, which means the volume and variety of production legal work here is genuinely hard to match elsewhere. Compensation consists solely of an annual salary with no bonuses, and employees choose each year how much of their compensation to receive as salary versus equity. For a legal professional who wants direct exposure to high-profile episodic television production at scale, the Manager, Physical Production Legal – Original Series role offers real scope and real responsibility.

Apply now for the Manager, Physical Production Legal – Original Series position at Netflix and bring your production legal expertise to one of the industry’s most active original series operations.
