Are you an experienced VFX Artist specialising in real‑time effects for Unity or Unreal Engine, with a passion for high‑quality gameplay visuals?

This is a contract opportunity to join a game development team working on a live, stylised project. You’ll focus on implementing, refining and ensuring the quality of VFX assets in‑game, collaborating closely with design, engineering and art teams to deliver polished, engaging player experiences.

About the role

You will support the integration and quality assurance of VFX within a real‑time game environment, working with assets produced both internally and by external partners. This role emphasises implementation, troubleshooting and optimisation, while also offering opportunities to contribute creatively to VFX direction. You will ensure all effects meet technical standards, visual consistency and gameplay readability requirements.

What you’ll do

  • Create and implement VFX that align with the project’s visual style, including gameplay effects and UI motion graphics
  • Integrate and polish externally produced VFX assets within the game engine
  • Ensure VFX assets function correctly and are free from bugs in‑game
  • Collaborate with design, art and engineering teams to maintain visual quality and gameplay clarity
  • Troubleshoot and resolve common VFX production and integration issues
  • Potentially review and guide outsourced VFX deliverables to ensure quality standards

What we’re looking for

Experience

  • At least 2 years of experience creating VFX for 3D games in Unity or Unreal Engine
  • Experience working with real‑time engine VFX (not frame‑by‑frame animation)
  • Experience implementing VFX into production environments

Skills

  • Strong understanding of VFX pipelines, tools and workflows
  • Ability to integrate, debug and optimise VFX assets in‑engine
  • Familiarity with gameplay‑driven VFX and UI motion effects
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across disciplines
  • Experience with at least one 3D software tool such as Maya, Blender or 3ds Max

Nice to have

  • Experience working with or managing outsourced VFX production
  • Ability to provide creative feedback and direction on VFX quality

Working style / behaviours

  • Detail‑oriented with a focus on quality and polish
  • Collaborative and communicative across teams
  • Proactive in identifying and solving technical issues
  • Comfortable working on‑site within a fast‑paced development environment

Why join

  • Opportunity to work on a high‑profile game project
  • Hands‑on role with real impact on player experience
  • Collaborative team environment with cross‑disciplinary exposure
  • Potential for contract extension based on performance
