Dreadstate in Ipswich are looking for passionate, energetic and dedicated people to join our small growing business. We provide Live Immersive Experiences with a focus on taking people out of their everyday lives and into a new world as soon as they get to our door. As a Live Actor and Game Master you will play the pivotal role in engaging with every player and ensuring they have a safe and unforgettable experience.

Our current Horror experiences (Jigsaw’s Lair and Hell House) are uniquely different from each other and designed to physically and psychologically challenge players to Face Their Fears whilst working together to survive. As with any live performance you must expect the unexpected and be able to use your initiative to adapt to any given situation and work under pressure. This role allows you to make a real difference to people’s experience and express yourself in a fun and fast paced environment.

Supported by the management team, training and guidance will be provided to carry out both the Live Actor And Game Master parts of the role; so no previous direct experience is required but a drama background is desired. This role allows you to be creative and innovative; whether you enjoy horror and want to do scare acting in a live environment or want to gain acting experience playing different characters and improvising with players. This is a flexible role that is predominantly weekends with the occasional weekdays and evenings (hours will vary).

What are the key responsibilities?

• Live Actor – Assume and deliver multiple characters in different scenarios; engage with teams based on the storyline and adapt to each individuals needs and responses so you and the players enjoy it
• Game Master – Control the technical side of the Escape Room and Computer elements whilst monitoring and guiding the teams of up to 6 players through the experience
• Dual role and deliver both the Game Master and Live Actor roles at the same time as required delivering incredible experiences to everyone
• Open and close the facility and reset elements before each game to the correct standard in a short space of time
• Safety check and carry out basic maintenance in the experience and assist with creation of new ones as needed
• Manage the booking system, other relevant software and liaising with customers on these
• Social media management including being involved directly in marketing to upsell the business
• Upkeep of the facility including keeping areas and elements clean and tidy and able to function correctly
• Any other additional relevant duties with training provided

What are we looking for?

• Reliability and dedication – not only to being present and supporting the business function but on focusing on delivering incredible experiences every time to every player
• Flexibility and organisation – this role requires flexible working across the week and weekends. Time management is crucial in all aspects especially whilst following procedures with attention to detail
• Passion and energy – having an interest for Horror and Escape Rooms/Immersive Experiences will help but generally being able to put your all into this role; having fun with it whilst working at pace and most importantly ensuring players enjoy themselves is what will make someone successful
• Outgoing with a can do attitude – you will need to have great communication skills and be engaging with people, including your fellow team members. You may be taken out of your comfort zone and need to be able to rise to any given challenge and not shy away from anything
• Positive and adaptable – We need someone that has the right attitude not only for our players but also to keep it a great environment to work in by supporting and integrating into the team. You must also be able to think on your feet, not crack under pressure and adapt to the ever changing worlds we create for our players
• Previous experience in Escape Rooms/Immersive Experiences in not required but may be helpful
• However small, a drama background to support the Live Actor element of the role, whether in School/College/University/Theatre etc. is desired

The role will be subject to relevant right to work checks, a trial and a probationary period. The role is currently a zero hours contract position.
