The Design and Technical sector of the Group, MMD Design & Consultancy Ltd, is a tight-knit team who have been providing a world class service to the mining industry for over 4 decades. There is an exciting opportunity for a Junior Technical Manual Composer to join that team and be part of our established Manuals Department.

The Role of Junior Technical Manual Composer

This is a permanent role based at our office in Somercotes, Derbyshire, UK. The successful candidate will be part of a team that is responsible for creating, updating, and structuring technical documentation for the full range of MMD products, such as user manuals, assembly instructions, and maintenance guides. These often accompany high value equipment and form an important part of the initial capital supply.

Duties

  • Organise and create high quality electronic documents. This may include detailed work instructions, images, drawings, diagrams, and animations.
  • Using SolidWorks Composer to create animations, training videos, etc, for use internally and externally.
  • Distribute newly created manuals and revised manuals to relevant customers and global MMD representatives.
  • Co-ordinate the relationship between text and graphics to make content more comprehensible.
  • Develop and adapt contemporary methods of manual presentation.
  • Liaise with internal departments to utilise practical manufacturing and assembly experiences to improve the procedural aspects of the MMDmanual.
  • Ensure all information contained in the manual is correct at the time of creation.
  • Implement any necessary processes and workflows that can improve efficiency.
  • Liaise with the UK Technical Department to ensure all technical matters and legal codes where applicable are adhered to.
  • Monitor and execute in line with contractual delivery dates to avoid costly penalties.
  • Ensure that manuals are retrospectively updated to reflect changes that occur to equipment in the field.
  • Manage any 3rd party that may be engaged for language translations and sub-supplied equipment manuals.

Skills & Experience Requirements

  • Qualified in, or currently studying a mechanical engineering discipline, and/or show a keen interest in a heavy engineering influenced career.
  • Previous technical writing experience desirable but not essential.
  • Understanding of heavy engineering principles including manufacturing methods such as welding, casting, and machining.
  • Enjoy using 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks.
  • Software proficiency of SolidWorks Composer and FrameMaker would be beneficial but not essential (training will be provided for the right candidate).
  • Technical understanding and ability to interpret engineering drawings
  • Have a willingness to learn the business and its product range, this will likely include time on the shop floor and jobsite visits.
  • Experience of the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Have great pride in their work and pay particular attention to detail
  • An enthusiasm and attitude to learn and succeed.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision (once established).

Remuneration Package
