Volunteer Job Listing: Video Editor (Linear).

Organization: DEFEND (Nonprofit) and 65square

Position: we are looking for a linear editor with some skills. You’d get raw files and need to create unique cuts with a lot or all creative freedom (Unless a specific project from a team had specific needs). You can be using iMovie or Final Cut or Premiere or whatever you wish but you should know what you’re doing. Will train the right person but better if you have a bit of independence

Location: Remote (Weekly Zoom Meetings)

About Us:

DEFEND is a volunteer-run nonprofit dedicated to reducing risks for children and vulnerable people online. We are currently building 65square, the world’s healthiest social media and dating platform, designed with game-like features and characteristics of an MMO. Our goal is to create a safer, more positive online space for users.

Role Description:

The Video Editor (Linear) will be responsible for editing video content for various platforms, including social media, websites, and presentations. This role requires a keen eye for detail, strong storytelling skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with other team members to produce high-quality videos that align with our organization’s goals.

Key Responsibilities:

Video Editing:

  • Edit raw footage into polished final products that effectively communicate the organization’s message.
  • Collaborate with producers and directors to understand project objectives and desired outcomes.
  • Ensure all video content adheres to brand guidelines and maintains a consistent style.

Content Creation:

  • Assist in the development of video concepts and scripts.
  • Create engaging graphics and animations as needed to enhance video storytelling.
  • Incorporate music, sound effects, and voiceovers into final edits.

Project Management:

  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Organize and maintain video files and assets in an efficient manner.
  • Provide regular updates on project status to stakeholders.

Collaboration:

  • Work closely with the marketing team to align video content with overall communication strategies.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to generate new ideas for video projects.
  • Engage with other departments to gather necessary footage or information for projects.

Quality Control:

  • Review final edits for quality assurance before distribution.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in video editing and production.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, or similar tools.
  • Familiarity with audio editing software is a plus (e.g., Audacity).
  • Basic understanding of color grading and correction techniques.

Qualifications:

  • MUST be 18 years and above.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Film Production, Media Arts, Communications, or related field preferred; equivalent experience will be considered.
  • Proven experience as a video editor; portfolio showcasing previous work is required.
  • Strong understanding of storytelling techniques through visual media.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Passion for non-profit work and commitment to the organization’s mission.
