The Videographer is a creative, self-motivated storyteller who uses video to engage audiences and bring ideas to life. This role requires curiosity for new techniques, comfort using a range of equipment, and the ability to manage multiple projects with varying deadlines from concept through completion. Responsibilities include researching, developing, producing, directing, shooting and editing video content for use across the city’s digital platforms, including social media, the website, internal communications and news media.

The Videographer will also create content for marketing campaigns and public meetings, contribute to the department’s social media strategy, and support the setup, streaming and recording of live events.

This position regularly operates and supports live-streamed public meetings, including evening City Council meetings, work sessions, Planning & Zoning Commission meetings and other public meetings. Evening and occasional weekend availability is required.

The role may also assist in publishing video content to social platforms and optimizing content for platform-specific performance.

Shooting/Editing:
Proficient with professional-grade cameras and manual settings across environments, as well as shooting and editing mobile content tailored to social platforms. Experienced with lighting, live social equipment, Osmo cameras, GoPros, DSLRs, and microphones. Skilled in Adobe Premiere with a strong creative eye for elevating content in post-production. Able to shoot and edit quickly—especially on mobile—under tight deadlines.

Producer:
Proactively develops and executes compelling story ideas. Confident directing and managing interview subjects, including leadership, to ensure authentic, high-quality content. Skilled at asking effective interview questions while simultaneously managing production logistics.

Idea Generator:
Consistently generates fresh video concepts and executes them independently. Brings a creative, solution-oriented mindset to content development on a daily and weekly basis.

Communication:
Communicates professionally and responsively with team members, city management, and elected officials. Strong written skills, including the ability to manage email correspondence and respond appropriately to social media engagement.

Experience/Misc.:
Bachelor’s degree in videography or related field preferred. Minimum two years of professional videography experience required. Must have schedule flexibility, including availability outside standard business hours.

  • Produces original video content aligned with the department’s digital content strategy.
  • Produces video content, including live shots, for special projects, presentations, campaigns and promotions to support departments and divisions.
  • Operates audio and video equipment, including cameras, microphones, lighting equipment, green screen, production switchers and editing/post-production software.
  • Operates and manages live streaming of City Council meetings, work sessions, Planning & Zoning Commission meetings and other public meetings, including setup, execution and breakdown of equipment.
  • Assists in posting messaging, photos and video content on the City’s social media platforms.
  • Assists in setup of audio/visual needs for meetings, press events and city functions.
  • Contributes creative ideas to weekly content planning and independently executes assigned projects with short turnaround timelines.
  • Maintains and transports production equipment and ensures equipment is properly stored and operational.
  • Formal Education/Knowledge: Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature which may be obtained with a two-year associate’s degree, diploma or equivalent from a college, technical, business, vocational, or correspondence school.   Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training. Equivalent combination of education and professional experience may be considered.
  • Experience:  Minimum of two years of experience in a related field.
  • Certifications and Other Requirements:  Valid Driver’s License.
  • Reading:   Work requires the ability to read general correspondence, memorandums, reports, and letters at a college level.
  • Math:   Minimal 
  • Writing:   Work requires the ability to write correspondence, memorandums, and reports at a college level.
  • Managerial:  Job has no responsibility for the direction or supervision of others 
  • Budget Responsibility:   Has no budgetary responsibility.
  • Policy/Decision Making:  Moderate – The employee normally performs the duty assignment according to his or her own judgment, requesting supervisory assistance only when necessary. Projects and daily work are managed with little oversight, however special assignments and significant work products may be reviewed upon completion. Typically positions in this category are supervisor to mid-management jobs.
  • Technical Skills:  Broad Application – Work requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization
    • Proficient with professional-grade cameras and manual settings across environments.
    • Skilled in lighting, audio capture and post-production editing.
    • Experience with Adobe Premiere Pro or equivalent editing software.
    • Ability to shoot and edit quickly, especially for mobile and social-first content.
    • Familiarity with live streaming platforms and production workflows preferred.
    • Experience operating production switchers and multi-camera live setups preferred.
  • Interpersonal/Human Relations Skills:  Moderate – In addition to the sharing of information, interactions at this level may also include providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies/procedures.  In many of the interactions, contacts may require the consideration of different points of view to reach agreement.  Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

  • Primary work location is an office environment with field production assignments.

  • This role requires transporting and setting up video production equipment and may involve standing for extended periods, frequent walking, handling equipment and occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds.
  • Work may include time pressure, multitasking and working closely with others in collaborative production settings.

  • Independently shoot, including live shots, produce and edit multiple videos on a weekly basis and publish content to the city’s digital platforms (website, social media, etc.).
  • Contribute to the weekly content calendar by presenting at least two creative and original ideas a week and executing them in a timely manner.
  • Set up shoots and interviews by making phone calls, sending emails and doing research.
  • Operate and maintain all audio and video equipment, including video cameras, microphones, lighting equipment, green screen, editing/postproduction software, etc. 
  • Set up and operate live stream of after-hours city council meetings, work sessions, planning and zoning commission meetings and other public meetings by executing the live stream, and as-needed, operating production switchers and cameras.
  • Assist in posting messaging, photos and video content on the city’s social media platforms.
  • Assist in setup of audio/visual needs for meetings or press events.
  • Display the highest level of professionalism and communication skills to be able to work with city management and elected officials.
