VFX Supervisor

VFX Supervisor is the lead creative and technical authority responsible for defining and executing the visual effects vision of a production, from pre-production through final delivery.

Their role is central to both artistry and project management:

Strategic & Creative Leadership:

. Acts as the director’s key creative partner on VFX

. Defines the film’s visual language and artistic direction

. Establishes workflows and ensures asset/scene compatibility with technical pipelines

. Manages relationships with key stakeholders

Artistic Oversight & Quality Control:

. Guides look development and visual prototyping across all departments (CG, FX, Lighting, Compositing)

. Oversees quality control to ensure aesthetic consistency and high technical standards in the final images

. Leads the daily review process, providing constructive feedback to artists

Technical Direction & Problem Solving:

. Assesses creative briefs to define technical methodologies and workflows

. Solves complex visual and technical challenges

. Collaborates with R&D teams to develop or implement new tools for the pipeline

Team Management & Production Collaboration:

. Leads, mentors, and motivates teams of VFX artists and department leads

. Works closely with the VFX Producer on bidding, planning, scheduling, and resource allocation to keep the project on time and on budget

On-Set Supervision:

. Often present during live-action shoots to plan for VFX, oversee data acquisition (HDRI, camera tracking), and ensure plates are captured correctly for post-production
