This is an IATSE 839 position covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

Marvel Studios Animation is looking for a 2D FX artist for the animated X-Men 97 series. The FX department is responsible for designing and establishing the 2D visual effects of the project, from smoke and fire to powers and objects colliding. The job consists in following the directions of the 2D FX Supervisor to create the effects of the film. 2D FX Artists should have a strong sense of animation, design, and graphic appeal.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a broad range of hand drawn 2D FX abilities in a collaborative environment
  • Create hand-drawn, consistent, and stylized FX designs and animation
  • Follow pipeline and workflow standards and problem solve with Background and Compositing Teams
  • Create natural and supernatural effects (ie. water, smoke, dust, lightning, bubbles, fire, storms, shadows, blurs, explosions, etc) which contribute to the scene
  • Maintain and communicate a strong knowledge of innovative FX animation technologies
  • Communicate sound solutions to technical and creative issues
  • Actively participate in team/department meetings
  • Be ready to work in iterations and improve effects by addressing notes from supervisors

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in similar capacity on 2D animated TV series an asset
  • Strong knowledge of 2D animation principles
  • Basic understanding of light and color

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to work in a 2D animation software required, ToonBoom Harmony preferred
  • Knowledge of 3D package or compositing software a plus

The pay rate for this role in California is $56.3800 to $65.2331 per hour. The base pay actually offered follows the minimum wage from the pay scale agreed upon in the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement and may also vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, among other factors.
