DANA [female, late 20s to 30s, any ethnicity]: The classic child of divorce, Dana’s pre-existing romantic cynicism got turbocharged when she failed to make lemonade from an 800lb lemon life hurled her way. Her slovenly house, overtaxed liver and frequent panic attacks all physical testaments to her emotional degradation. Dana uses humor as both a shield and a sword, and all she really wants is something (or someone) to blunt her hurt and sorrow, however temporary. CALEB [male, late 20s to 30s, any ethnicity]: The forgotten middle child from a big family in a small town. Caleb suffered under relentless bullying in his teenage years, when his larger and more developed peers mistook his awkwardness with the opposite sex and general timidness for effeminance. Now, with his three brothers having started families of their own, and his parents too embarrassed to even nag him about grandchildren, Caleb is desperate to start a family and cast off his black wool. If we were being kind, we’d say he’s lost. If we weren’t, we’d say he’s pre-incel.
