Brian Knox McGugan ~ (BFA acting U of A 1987) actor, director film / theatre, bass player / vocals. Winner 'best supporting actor', 72 hour horror film race 2018, he’s a complex and evolving artist, born in Calgary Alberta of geologist parents.

He apprenticed at the Citadel theatre w/ Nicol Williamson & Len Cariou in Edmonton 1980's, following that he created original performances with “The Acting Gypsies", particularly infamous was his interpretation of Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis". Following his graduation from the University of Alberta BFA (acting) program, Brian wrote & performed in his one-man psycho thriller "The Man With The Jelly Mask" from 1989 - 1991, across Canada from Victoria to Toronto, garnering fantastic reviews.

Brian worked extensively behind the camera on series, features and commercials as locations, AD, editorial camera, and as video playback coordinator... and so learned as he earned. At Rogers community television, Brian created dozens of short videos, crewed, shot and edited many others, and executive produced Linda Darlow's 12 episode Biz-series, "Reel Pro-Files" during his 5 volunteer years there.

Cast as Jeff in “Motifs & Repetitions" at UBC, Brian produced, directed & starred in the film adaptation of CE Gatchalian’s play, which sold to Bravo Channel & the Knowledge Network (super 16mm b/w stock)

In motion pictures, Brian's favourites include: Fringe, Once upon a time, DC Legends of tomorrow, Anne Wheeler's "Cowboys Don't Cry" “MacGyver", "Highlander", "The X Files", "Bordertown" & "Murphy's Law" He’s played lead roles in Kevin Tyson's "PLUS", Jack McQuistin's "The Interview", George Allen's "Franks Case”. He Co-starred with Curtis Caravaggio as Nazi ‘ SS Brigadefürer Reiner, in “Ghosts of Europe", as an eccentric sorcerer ‘Salavan’ in Nikki Wallin's, "The Children of Pellah"; (his character an homage to Nichol Williamson).

He had supporting lead Kristian Messere's, "Stockholders", and as mobster ‘Valentino’ in Christoph Kozitsa's, "Old Traditions". Brian won “outstanding performer” award for his gay preist in "Sunday Morning", played another priest in “Cold Feet", both films by Sophie Romvari. In this way, Brian continues to support emerging filmmakers, seeking challenge as an actor and nurturing our growing film community.

In 2018 he obtained TEFL certification (Oxford Seminars, Vancouver 2018), travelled / worked teaching ESL in Bangkok Thailand, in Canada & now online. He will soon start teaching young actors online, hopes to return to Thailand soon.

Meanwhile Brian continues with commitment to excellence in classes, teaching, artistic exploration... all with wonder & curiosity.
