Studies have shown that the earth’s climate has gone through 7 cycles of drastic changes, with the beginning of the modern climate era marked at the abrupt end of the previous ice age 7000 years ago. However, the current trend of changes in climate has been due to the result of human activity since the mid-20th century and is progressing at an unprecedented rate over the past decades (Climate Change: Vital Signs of the Planet, 2019). Evidence supporting the above includes rising global temperatures, warming oceans, shrinking ice sheets, glacial retreats, decreasing snow covers, rising sea levels, declining arctic circles, extreme weather events and acidification of oceans (Climate Change: Vital Signs of the Planet, 2019).
I think with the increasing efforts put into campaigning, to spread awareness of the issues at hand has always been an utmost priority. Campaigners argue that the general public in many parts of the world is still unaware of the ongoing changes on our planet and that the first step to change is awareness. I could be extremely wrong, and these are just opinions raised by me i.e. just another human being. However, I do believe that it is time to provide solutions to the public, rather than just spreading awareness which by now to many is just talks. But who am I to talk, as my suggestions just include small lifestyle changes like using less plastic and so forth. I pray and believe that there are greater minds at work trying to find us a solution through these tough times.
Until then, I can do my small part in fighting this greater issue! The film below is an attempt to show the drastic changes in climate and to introduce the ideology that small lifestyle changes in our daily life when applied to a global coherent human system have the power to transform the world. After a lot of review and ponderous discussions that led us no-where, the narration was written over a couple of hours by Aashna, combined with the efforts of Sarah who helped with the drawings on the paper, voice notes sent across by Ella and Lucy through WhatsApp and some stock footage discovered on the Internet, the film was made in a time span shy of a day. It isn’t the best of efforts, however, I still thought it was worth a share!
