Video Editor for Makeout NY

Makeout

Job Position(s): Video Editor
Project Type: Videos
Job Date: Ongoing
Compensation: Paid
Union Status: Non-Union

Overview

The Video Editor role is an opportunity to become the one-person post-production department of a scrappy, ambitious studio who regularly finds itself creating and producing a highly varied mix of content like traditional commercials, concept-driven branded content, boundary-pushing virtual events, tantalizing sizzle videos that capture our experiential productions, narrative case studies and studio reels, and all kinds of other “special projects”  that our weird and wonderful reputation seems to attract.

First and foremost, you should be a confident, passionate editor who loves the idea of working across all genres and aesthetics of video-based storytelling. That said, you’re also a big-picture, ownership-driven person who gets excited about wearing many different hats to bring a project to life, whether that’s sometimes playing post supervisor, After Effects generalist, DIT, colorist, sound mixer, or whatever else might be needed as part of a small team of creatives and producers who treat every project like its own unique special mission. (Translation: If you’re not a self-starter and prefer to do the same type of work or follow the same process all the time, this role may not be right for you.)

3-6 years of experience in Editor roles required. Salary will be commensurate with experience, with additional benefits such as health insurance and paid vacation that will be shared should we reach the interview stage.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Video Director, Creative Director, Producer, designers, and others to shepherd video projects through the post-production process in accordance with the creative/editorial vision

  • Serve in the capacity of Lead Editor on video productions that come through the studio –  including client projects – be they traditional video productions or virtual events – as well as internal passion projects, self-promotional projects, spec projects, and anything else the team might envision or need

  • At times, play other appropriate or necessary roles on productions to ensure success, whether that’s post supervisor, DIT or something else, or perform tasks like creating certain VFX or motion graphics animations/transitions, implementing color correction and audio mixing, etc.

  • Work with designers to develop brand-appropriate title sequences and motion graphics content

  • Establish timelines, workflows and additional resources needed on a per-project basis

  • Manage workflows and balance projects needs based on priority and deadlines

  • Edit to specifications using Adobe Premiere and add effects using Adobe After Effects, providing exports for reviews and approvals along the way

  • Collaborate with DIT, or even serve as DIT when appropriate, to ingest, organize, backup all media content

  • Generally support the creative development and production planning process by sharing references, performing research, offering capture suggestions and/or equipment recommendations

  • During slower times, you will self-initiate and identify opportunities to enhance processes, research gear, explore new techniques, ideate on original productions, etc.

  • Occasionally work nights and/or weekends, understanding that sometimes last-minute exports pop up and surprise feedback can create unavoidable work outside the typical office hours. We work hard to ensure this is not the normal flow of work nor client expectation, but these situations still do arise. When they do, you’ll still bring a positive attitude and determined work ethic to the job every day.

  • Interface with clients when appropriate

  • Have a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and be willing to drive commercial vehicles (e.g., cargo vans) when appropriate or necessary

  • Travel by plane for shoots, events, etc. when appropriate or necessary
