Chop Shop has delivered work for Netflix, Amazon Prime, Paramount Plus, Disney, ABC, BBC and Discovery Worldwide.

We are currently in production on several international feature films and upcoming TV projects.

Position overview

Successful applicants will have a strong combination of creative and technical skills, using Nuke to complete multi-layer composites.

Applicants presenting highly realistic, live-action composites (rather than stylised full-CG composites) in their portfolio, will have their application reviewed with priority.

Applicants with any demonstrated prior experience with Autodesk Flame will also have their application reviewed with priority.

Responsibilities

• Alongside VFX Supervisor, evaluates creative and technical approach for assigned shots – creating and manipulating computer animation and audio

• Performs all tasks associated with the compositing process, including 2D tracking, matte extraction, layering of elements, and colour grading on moderately difficult to very difficult shots

• Demonstrate consistent creative and technical proficiency in the production of multimedia content.

• Combine artistic and creative elements with software programming and designing and developing digital animations, images.

• Maintains the overall look, colour balance, and quality for assigned shots and sequences to create uniformity in all finished work.

• Review, QC & tech check your work for internal and external delivery, ensuring it addresses creative and technical requirements.

• Ability to work collaboratively with artists from other disciplines.

• Contribute to creative and technical conversations, with a view to raising the quality level of the final image and ensure outstanding visual outcome

• Manage your workload. Advise your Supervisor and other key stakeholders of any hurdles which may impact delivery quality, timeliness or budget.

• Coach and mentor other less experienced Compositors using the latest techniques to grow their craft and the quality of work in the studio as a whole

• Promote a collaborative and enjoyable workplace.

Required Skills + Experience

• Minimum 3-5 years creating high-end composites for live-action projects.

• Technical and creative problem solving with a can-do mindset.

• Critical eye and solid understanding of photo-realism in terms camera, lighting, composition, perspective, motion and colour

• A proficiency in 3D multi-pass rendering techniques

• A team-oriented mentality with a ‘get it done’ attitude

• An ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment

• The ability to be adaptable, flexible and proactive when it comes to troubleshooting

• Working knowledge of the VFX pipeline and entire post-production process, including interdepartmental dependencies and hand over processes.

Preferred Skills + Competencies

• Utilitarian knowledge of other discipline software such as Maya, Blender, Unreal, Photoshop and industry standard tracking software is preferred but not required.

• Python experience is preferred but not required.

• Nuke skills preferred.

• Relevant tertiary qualification.
