**About the Team:**

The WSJ Opinion section has long served as a forum for intelligent, values-driven commentary, dedicated to advocating a consistent philosophy that can be summed up as ‘free markets, free people.’ While we aim to persuade, every word we publish is the product of rigorous reporting, research and debate. WSJ Opinion offers sharp, original analysis and strong points of view on the news of the day. This role is central to translating that voice for a visual-first, social-native audience.

**About the Role**

The Wall Street Journal is seeking a versatile social and podcast video editor to help bring WSJ Opinion’s journalism to life through video. You will focus on adapting our podcasts into full-length vodcasts for YouTube and on-platform viewing, while also producing vertical video — both social-first clips drawn from those vodcasts and original, talent-led segments designed to drive discovery and engagement on platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, LinkedIn, Snapchat and WSJ.com. This role involves not just technical video editing skills but also a strong understanding of social media trends and audience engagement.

As part of our social media team, you will work directly with editorial board members, writers and editors around the Opinion newsroom, as well as our video and audio teams, to produce compelling social video that showcases the best of WSJ Opinion for new and existing audiences. You will be involved in all steps of production: conceptualization, scripting, shooting, editing/post-production and distributing. You will be responsible for implementing visually compelling post-production techniques, including motion graphics, multi-camera editing, and on-screen text. Additionally, you will manage metadata optimization, such as selecting titles, thumbnails, and compelling captions to maximize reach and engagement.

You should be a self-starter who understands the needs of audiences across multiple platforms and is able to work independently under deadline pressure. Dedication to high journalism standards and excellent video editing skills are required. You should have experience with video editing software, including Premiere Pro, After Effects, Adobe InDesign and/or other relevant tools. Animation skills are a plus. We ask that you have a deep knowledge of visual-first social media platforms and an ability to closely monitor trends to guide visual strategy forward. Understanding the nuances of different platforms is essential in order to tailor content accordingly. You will also be comfortable distilling reporting into digestible bites for potential new audiences.

**You Will:**

+ Lead the visual post-production for full-length vodcast episodes, including editing, clipping moments, optimizing for YouTube and other video platforms.

+ Lead vertical storytelling by creating short-form content for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, in order to reach new and existing audiences. This includes collaborating with editorial board members and a team of social media, audio and video editors and producers to create compelling social video that showcases the best of WSJ Opinion.

+ Closely monitor podcast video trends to guide visual strategy forward.

+ Pitch stories and concepts, and come up with unique angles.

+ Integrate visually compelling post-production elements, including motion graphics, multi-camera editing, and on-screen text.

+ Optimize titles, thumbnails and captions.

+ Embed short-form video in various Opinion newsletters.

+ Attend coverage planning meetings and identify stories with new audience development potential.

+ Help codify best visual practices on social media, including the creation of unique templates to be used on multiple platforms; clarify and update the guidelines as necessary.

**You Have:**

+ 5+ years experience working at the intersection of social media and journalism. Experience as a video or multimedia producer preferred.

+ Experience working with and a deep knowledge of visual-first social platforms, especially Tiktok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Snapchat.

+ Experience with photo and video editing software, including Premier Pro, Photoshop, Adobe InDesign, Final Cut Pro, After Effects and/or other relevant tools. Animation skills a plus.

+ Sound editorial judgment and a clear understanding of WSJ Opinion’s ideas, philosophy and principles.

+ Understanding of and familiarity with social-media publishing and analytics tools.

+ An enthusiasm for opinion journalism and a curiosity about current events and business news.

+ Strong organizational, communication, leadership and collaborative abilities.
