Job Description:

Lighthouse Games is a newly established AAA studio located in Leamington Spa, driven by a team of elite professionals and an exciting vision to create a groundbreaking game. As a Senior VFX Artist, you will be at the forefront of enhancing our games’ visual experiences through cutting-edge effects that captivate our players.

In this role, you will collaborate with various teams to conceptualise and implement high-calibre visual effects that align with our artistic goals. Your expertise will not only help shape the aesthetic of our projects but also serve as a guiding light for our junior artists, helping them grow and thrive in their roles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work alongside the Art Director and interdisciplinary teams to design and create impactful VFX that elevate gameplay and storytelling.
  • Develop and optimise VFX assets using industry-standard tools, ensuring they meet artistic and technical specifications.
  • Contribute to the refinement of VFX workflows and pipelines, enhancing overall productivity and output quality.
  • Mentor junior artists within the team, providing insights and constructive feedback to enhance their skill sets.
  • Engage with Technical Artists and developers to ensure seamless integration of VFX into the gameplay environment.
  • Stay current with industry trends in VFX technology and techniques, sharing knowledge and innovations with the team to foster growth.
  • Participate in creative reviews and critiques to uphold a high standard of quality for all VFX assets produced.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in creating VFX for video games, demonstrated through a well-curated portfolio (ideally real-world effects: rain, smoke, dust clouds, fire etc.)
  • Strong understanding of visual effects principles, including dynamics, simulation, and compositing techniques.
  • Proficient in using software tools like Maya, Houdini to produce VFX content.
  • Experience with game engines such as Unreal Engine, particularly in implementing and optimising visual effects.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams, with excellent communication skills.
  • A passion for mentoring and cultivating talent among junior staff members.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Unreal Engine, particularly the Niagara VFX system.
  • Experience with Houdini and EmberGen for advanced visual effects.
  • Knowledge of shader programming (HLSL or visual scripting for UE4/5) for creating custom effects.
