Music Composer – Contract

A writer and lyricist is seeking a talented music composer to collaborate on refining an original poem that has been adapted into a song. The project centers on translating the existing piece into professional sheet music, enhancing the melody, phrasing, and structure, and making light lyric adjustments with the writer’s approval. The ideal collaborator will help preserve the emotional tone and intent of the original work while contributing creative input to elevate the song’s musicality. This is a highly collaborative process, with the writer remaining closely involved throughout, and is best suited for a composer comfortable working with vocal music and notation.

Responsibilities

• Translate an original song into professional sheet music suitable for vocal performance
• Refine and clean up the melody, phrasing, and song structure while maintaining the emotional core
• Suggest and implement light lyric adjustments in collaboration with the lyricist
• Communicate regularly to ensure the project aligns with the writer’s vision and intent
• Provide creative input and musical expertise to enhance the overall quality of the piece

Skills And Requirements

• Proven experience composing and arranging vocal music
• Proficiency in music notation software (e.g., Sibelius, Finale, MuseScore)
• Strong understanding of melody, harmony, and song structure
• Ability to interpret and preserve the emotional tone of lyrical content
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Experience working with lyricists or writers is highly desirable
• Ability to deliver high-quality sheet music and audio references
• Open to feedback and iterative creative processes
