“NO EXIT” is based on the untold true stories of Chinese Americans caught in the crossfire between China and the United States.

At the center is Simon Guo, a professor who immigrated to the U.S. from China thirty years ago. Determined to leave the past behind, Simon adjusts to a new reality after his close friend, a naturalized U.S. citizen of Chinese descent, is arrested on suspicion of espionage. However, when his American-born daughter decides to go to China, Simon’s greatest fears are brought to the surface.

SIMON GUO, LEAD. Male, 45-60, Chinese.
Quiet, mild-mannered, and overly cautious. A Beijing University graduate and active participant in the 1989 Tiananmen Square pro-democracy protests, Simon fled to the US in 1990 and is now a statistics professor at UCLA.
Due to his background as a political dissident, he has not been back to China in 30 years, for fear of being detained. Despite being a naturalized American citizen, he keeps his head down and his mouth shut, the fight in him long gone.
In the land of the free, he is a virtual prisoner.

LINDA YU, SUPPORTING. Female, 35-50, Chinese.
A fellow professor in Simon’s department and one of his closest friends, Linda is poised, elegant, and utterly brilliant. While Linda maintains a calm outer facade, she is deeply emotional and not afraid of speaking her mind.
After her husband, Jerry, is detained by the FBI on charges of suspected espionage, Linda struggles with the sudden loss.

JIJI GUO, SUPPORTING.
Female, 18-30, Asian american.
Simon’s only daughter. A freshman at UCLA and the ultimate Instagram cool kid.
Born and raised in America, Jiji is outspoken and fearless, prizing her independence above all else. She has never been to China and dreams of going—despite her father’s objections.
She loves her father, but doesn’t need anyone’s permission to make her own choices.
