Educational Short Film Series • Aug 5 – Sep 10 • Need Assistant Editor – Paid

Independent producer seeks Assistant Editor for educational project.

Duties to include organizing media, assembling rough cuts, syncing clips, entering and updating clip metadata, managing a proxy workflow.  The project is an online course for the boating industry that includes about 25 filmed lessons.  Around 15 of these need to be updated or revised in the next month.

Your chief responsibility: Help get each segment to a watchable rough-cut stage, ready for the editor to step in and do the fine cut, graphic treatments, narration, and mix.

Details: About 10 hours weekly for five weeks, starting August 5th. Scheduling flexible. $18/hr. Must be local to the Vancouver, BC area.

Candidates must be able to work quickly, using basic cutting and trimming functions in Adobe Premiere, managing and organizing clips, bins, and timelines.  Experience in creating, syncing, and editing multicam timelines is essential.  Other advanced skills, such as  working with effects, complex key framing, or sound mixing are not necessary, though there will be some opportunity to learn these.  Please provide relevant editing credits, experience and background, and links to RELATED work samples (corporate training, educational, etc.). It’s not necessary to have your own editing equipment, but please indicate if you do.

This position is a good fit for someone starting out, with solid basic knowledge of the tools but a need for experience and training in the craft. Supervising editor has decades of experience in broadcast (TLC, Discovery, Food Network, etc.), commercials and non-broadcast; has taught many assistants over the years (including at New York Times Television in New York) who have continued on to successful careers in the industry.
